Upbeat gospel singer Jessy Dixon passed away today at the age of 73, according to his sister Miriam Dixon. She said he died Monday morning at his home in Chicago.
Dixon was also formerly the keyboard player with Earth Wind and Fire, and had a number of his songs performed by Christian and secular artists, including Amy Grant and Diana Ross.
He was the opening act for Paul Simon for eight years.
Dixon in recent years has been a costant presence on Bill Gaither’s Gospel Series.
He produced five gold records during his career.
Along with his sister Miriam, Dixon is survived by a brother.
